Tours of local model shops and sites of interest are the reason why our Conferences are located

in different parts of the country. There's really no other way to get an up-close, behind-the-scenes look

at these amazing locations. Though they're considered "optional" tours, we think they're essential!


Tour - Portland, OR 2008

TOURS 2018

FRIDAY, March 16th

Tour A - Steelcase and Meyer May House - Founded in 1912 as the Metal Office Furniture Company, Steelcase has had a 105-year-old legacy of innovation in design and manufacturing. Our tour will go directly into the model shop and you'll meet with key members of the model making team. Our second tour stop will be a guided walk through the meticulously restored Meyer May House, where you'll experience an original Prairie house as world-renown architect Frank Lloyd Wright envisioned it.

Tour B - Herman Miller and Gerald R Ford Museum - With a 108-year-old history, Herman Miller, originally the Michigan Star Furniture Company, has become synonymous with "modern" furniture. We will visit the model shop and see first hand why the company's products become classics of industrial design. Next, we'll visit the Gerald R. Ford Museum where the museum's staff will guide you through the processes and methods of preserving and exhibiting thousands of artifacts relating to our nation's 38th President.

MONDAY, March 19th

Tour C - Amway Corporation and Kendall College of Art and Design - Founded in Ada, Michigan in 1959, Amway has earned the title of "World's Number-One-Direct Selling Company" and makes and delivers 450 nutrition, home, and beauty products. We'll go behind-the-scenes with this product development giant to learn how they utilize model making in their innovative products. Then, we'll visit the Kendall College of Art and Design at Ferris State University where more than 1200 students study sculpture, metals and jewelry design, furniture, industrial and collaborative design. 

Tour D - JCI/Yanfeng, World Class Prototypes and Tiara Yachts - Johnson Controls, Inc./Yanfeng is a joint venture with more than 90 manufacturing, global engineering, development and customer centers in the US, Europe, China, Japan and India. Their product portfolio includes instrument panels and cockpit systems, door panels, floor consoles, and overhead consoles. World Class Prototypes is a full-service model shop with services that include rotational molding, vacuum forming, and injection molding. The final stop of this tour will be at Tiara Yachts, a premier brand in the marine industry, specializing in cruising and fishing yachts from 30' to 58'. 

Tours are available until full at $60 each per person. Additional details will be provided soon. All tours include lunch en route, and transportation departing from the Holiday Inn Downtown Grand Rapids Hotel.
