About this Opportunity
Herman Miller’s Summer Internship Program is a paid, 12-week opportunity that provides a 100% real-world experience for students early in their career. Throughout the summer, you will apply academic learning to real-world situations and cultivate leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
As a Model Maker Intern, you’ll work with other Model Makers in Herman Miller’s internal Model Shop to build prototypes to specifications, bringing ideas to life from various raw materials using CAD and engineering drawings.

• Learn and work with a variety of technology used in the Model Making industry.
• Utilize various types of equipment and technology while working with 3D printing, woodworking, metal fabrication, and plastic fabrication.
• Rotate through the Model Shop to gain a variety of experiences.
• Build prototypes from 3D printing, full-scale mock-ups, and new product testing.
• Work with a cross-functional team to complete an intern project which will be presented to senior-level executives.
• Gain on-the-job work experience aligned with your career goals.
• Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve our goals.
• Emphasis will be placed on team participation, ability to plan, and ability to achieve results on assigned projects.

You might be just who we're looking for if you are...
• Knowledgeable of 3D and CNC Machining Softwares (preferred)
• Passionate about building and making things.
• A self-starter who is reliable and motivated in your work.
• Detailed-oriented and a good problem solver.
• Knowledgeable and have some experience working with a variety of materials such as wood, metal, plastics, urethane, and painting.
• Able to work well with and develop a partnering relationship with other team members.
• Enrolled and pursuing an Associate's degree or a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Prototype and Design, Product Development, Manufacturing Technology, or any other Model Making Program from an accredited college or university, and able to provide transcripts upon request.
• You must have a GPA of at least 3.0 (overall or within your program) to qualify for consideration in the Intern Program
• Must have satisfactorily completed basic coursework in the chosen degree program
• Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation, communication, software, and tools currently used in the HMI office environment.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
