Model Maker and Prototyper

Role Summary:
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Model Maker to join the Design Team in Crown’s New Bremen, Ohio global headquarters. Crown offers a progressive model-making environment with in-house 3d Printing and CNC capabilities, sophisticated molding and casting techniques, an expanding metalworking facility, and tremendous fabrication-by-hand opportunities. Models range from exploratory 3d printed models to ergonomic study bucks and fully functioning prototype vehicles for design and engineering investigation.
• Build and fabricate high quality, detailed, unique and complex prototype models using plastics, wood, metals, Ren, and additional materials
• Create inventive and appropriate 3d solutions utilizing multiple 3dCAD software platforms
• Program, operate, and maintain equipment such as CNC, 3d printers, laser etcher/cutter, mills, table saws, routers, band saws, and general shop hand tools
• Collaborate with Design teams to understand and plan project build needs, brainstorm ideas, and review build progress
• Document project activities and direction changes
• Understand vendor capabilities and make recommendations for outsourcing when appropriate
• Explore new materials, processes, and equipment
• Travel upon request based on project requirements and professional development
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
• Must have valid driving privileges
• Ability to travel occasionally throughout the United States and Europe with overnight stays (0-5%)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate degree in Model Building, Model Making, or related major
• Competence with traditional materials and modeling techniques including sculpting, machining, mold making, casting, and metalworking
• 3dCAD skills
• 3d printing and CNC machining skills
• Experience in prototyping or model making, scheduling resources in a model shop, and collaborating with industrial designers, engineers, and vendors in new product development within Automotive, Aerospace, or Consumer Product industries
